ACCOMMODATION
The Southerly 28 offers 5 berths in 2 cabins with 6'3" maximum headroom. The forward cabin offers a V berth with infill to make into a double berth forward.


Saloon
The Saloon has a large dining table to port with C-shaped seating and table which can be slid up the mast step pole to underside of the deck. When fully lowered, the table forms an infill to make a double berth.
Swing keel control & switch panel
The winch handle to control the swing keel can be seen on the left-centre of this picture. To the left of the keel box can be seen the electrical panel where the switches & fuses for navigation lights, pressurised water and heating are located.

Pilot house and galley
The inside steering position affords good visibility through the large recently-replaced forward-facing windows. Below the traditional ship's wheel, is a large chart table with chart storage, a navigator's seat and a second switch and fuse panel.
The galley is to starboard with two burner cooker with oven and grill and stainless steel sink with pressurised water), crockery and cutlery.

WC
The toilet compartment contains a recently-replaced Jabsco WC.
The washbasin has a mixer tap with an extendable shower head.
Cockpit
The companionway steps lead up to a large, well-protected cockpit with two good sized lockers and a vented gas locker.
The cockpit is self-draining and a large portion of the cockpit sole doubles as an engine-access hatch giving exceptional accessibility to engine, gearbox, fuel filters, fuel tank and propellor shaft.
Cockpit seating
The cockpit seating has recently benefitted from new Treadmaster non-slip deck covering.
Additional folding seats are fitted to the aft of the cockpit.
LAYOUT & HULL
White GRP hull and decks with moulded-in non-slip surfaces. Wheel steering in pilothouse and tiller steering in cockpit to transom hung rudder. Stainless steel stanchions, pulpit and pushpit quarters. Lifted out every winter.
Lifting centreplate protected by zinc anodes.

LIFT KEEL
Unlike the larger Southerlies, the Southerly 28 has a very simple and easy-to-maintain centreplate.
The plate lift cable was replaced in January 2019.
The plate is protected by zinc anodes, replaced annually.



MECHANICAL & ELECTRICAL
Mechanical
This Southerly 28 has a Bukh, two cylinder, 20hp diesel engine located under companionway steps and cockpit floor with easy access. Last serviced March 2019. Stainless steel exhaust elbow. It has a shaft drive to a three blade fixed propeller. Single lever Morse controls. ~70- litre stainless-steel fuel tank.
Electrical Systems
2 x 12 volt batteries (1x engine + 2 x domestic) charging from alternator and battery charger. 240v shore power system with ring main and battery charger.
